#14528 - Silver Crucifix from New York Camp Stafford VA
This is a small silver crucifix dug in the camp of New York Regiment at Stafford, VA. A hoard of crucifix were found and presumed to be from a lost sutler's stock. The motifs are from the Orthodox Eastern Christian Church which makes sense since many of the troopers in that regiment were Slavic descent. This has a skull at base which indicates Christ's triumph over evil and death. On back are hallmarks for silver content. No longer has top loop. About 1 1/8" high.
