#14848 - Two Awesome Cartidge boxes old Gettysborg group
These are two leather cartridge boxes collected early off the Gettysburg battlefield in the period soon after battle before leather could deteriorate out in elements: These both descended from a very old Gettysburg collection with a typed tag. The tag proposes that cartridge box plates were worn of different sizes on outer flap to be used as a captured rebel. (Hard to prove but great theory) The roller buckles were stripped off the larger cartridge box to retrofit elsewhere. Interestingly, the smaller pistol box has the ink initials "WB" on the inside flap. Both are kept together because that is how they were found & kept over 150 years. (Tag comes with it)
