#14903 - Wood lanyard and hooked rope to ignite cannon
This is a "US" marked with lanyard with its original safety-length of rope and metal hook for igniting a friction primer in a cannon vent hole.
The cannoneer put the hook thru the wire ring, stepped back the length of the rope from the cannon, and yanked the wooden grip. This drew a coarse wire through the fulminate of mercury in the friction primer tube, sending sparks down into the main gunpowder charge at base of cannon tube. Ka-Boom! The lanyard gave safe distance from a jumping cannon. This is likely a CW surplus item, but is original. All parts present. "US" carved into wood grip end... Put it on your shelf near the shells!
