#15014 - Model 1850 Civil War Junior Officer's Sword
This is a Civil War Officer Sword. Likely for a Junior Officer since not engraved. It is tight, but rayskin gone from the ribbed wooden grip which has slight chip at base. The brass pierced, floral grip is intact but had been painted gold years ago. Typically, this was to brighten "look" in GAR Hall display cases or on parades. The blade was cleaned enough over the years that I can no longer read maker markings on ricasso. There has been a fine surface pitting over blade. Possible a "field pickup souvenir" and that is why it has no rayskin and was painted gold for display in a case. Site unknown. About 36 3/4" long overall. Nice relic for your wall.
