#15016 - Great Grandpa Ballards LDB Cartridge Box
This is a standard Civil War leather cartridge box (pre 1864). It has some crazing and small areas flaking on outside. No US plate (but one was there due to slits in lid) Inside flaps and tabs intact, but roller buckles gone from bottom edge. No maker's markings. Now the good part! The soldier scratched his initials LDB initial rear of box! Inside is a card from a lady: Great Grandfather's knapsack from Civil War!" The "B" coincides with the last name Ballard of the lady's card. On rear of box is a tattered label that shows end of Wisc(onsin). So, maybe some clues, maybe not. Still a cool relic with teasing tidbit clues for a CW Detective!
