#15343 - Large Albumin Union Captain the Ohio scarecrow
This is a large albumin photograph of a tall, gawky Union Captain in his frock coat gazing in concentration toward a remembered enemy. It has an oval opening in it's original mat. Would fit a standard CW era 8 X 10 inch shadowbox frame (common at antiques malls still)... Slightly light on contrast but fine on clarity. Sadly, no name written on back. The paper tag on rear board reads: Leon Van Loo's Photographic Gallery... Cincinnati, Ohio." Age toning on mats and very slight browning to image. This could have been made from a negative saved earlier in war for a Veteran's parlor wall, or taken outright in larger format upon return from hostilities. Neat.
