#15346 - Bright 1863 Union NCO sword by Ames company
This is a bright Union NCO sword with an 1863 inspector's marking as swell as the Ames Manufacturing Logo on the ricasso. It was apparently carried in post-War parades by a Union veteran, for the brass grip is polished bright, giving it a striking gilted look to the brass grip. The blade is bright silvered: likely given a nickel coating by veteran for post-War GAR parades. This shows well in photos here... Also marked with US Inspector's initials on hand guard. Blade is tight to brass grip. No scabbard. A very fine marked original Ames CW sword that was later brightened for veteran GAR days!
