#15591 - Albumin of Union Musician with fancy jacket
This is an original paper albumin mounted on old cardboard of a Union musician. His fancy shell jacket bears butterfly type piping typical to musicians. He holds his kepi on lap. No officer's bard. No ID yet known. This image was once a slightly larger oval (likely 8 by 10) with a fancy oval gold-bordered mat. It was cut down to a smaller rectangle later. These images were often copied after the Civil War by proud, surviving CW veterans for placement in fancy oval wood frames. Hung proudly in hallways, dens, or libraries to show their youthful service. Why knows why was reduced in size. But a cool image due to the uniform type.
