#15663 - Civil War Cavalryman's star in a shield badge
This is an original nickel-coated brass star surrounded by a shield. Originally, I thought it might be a Corps Badge, but the lead back fill and remnants of three attaching wires lead me to think it was to adorn the leather gear of a horse. Some believe this is from a Texan unit due to the star. However, both Union and CSA used stars and patriotic war shield motifs. This has a lead-filled back, so a very sturdy piece. About 2 1/8" tall. No ID known. Comes in a small Riker Box for safe & easy future storage.
