#16144 - Worn yet well-marked Union privates cap box
This is an original leather Civil War capbox as carried on the belt of privates. The leather has flaked over parts of face, especially over the intact closure tab. Well marked "R.White U.S. Ord. Dept, Subinspector" on outer flap. Also by maker: "S.H. Young, Newark, NJ" on inner flap. Still has all flaps a two rear belt loops. There is lambs wool inside but no nipple pick. Stitching is tight.
