#16434 - Union Crossed Cannon Artilleryman Kepi Insignia
This is an original Civil War era Union "crossed cannon" insignia for the kepi of an artilleryman. It is about 3 1/4" across. Has a darker brown aged patina with race spots of toned gilt here & there. It has two attachment wires on the back. This style wire was typically used by Bannerman's surplus military supply house which bought surplus insignia at the end of the Civil War and sold them over the ensuing decades thru their catalogs to collectors. So, this was an original Civil War made insignia but sold later as an unissued surplus item. Thus, it is cheaper than those with the Civil War era looped wires on back.
