#16444 - Neat Ruby Ambro New York soldier with his poem
This is a ninth-plate Ruby Ambrotype of a spooky Union private whose poem lies behind the image. He has gold-accented buttons. Jacket has cloth shoulder tabs in style of New Yorkers. There is sadly a horizontal scratch in emulsion across his lower face. Behind the image, written on inner paper of the half-case is a poem scrawled in pencil. Hard to read, but looks like: "Pierce I love thee, Pierce I do, Pierce believe me, Pierce so true." However, he could have been mis-spelling "Peace" which would be even more poetic for a soldier... Cool.
