#16701 - Late War Desperation CSA spur Petersburg
This is a fragment of a late Civil War era CSA local-shop-made brass spur. Found near Petersburg battle site on private land with permission. Due to lack of supplies and time, the Confederacy resorted to makeshift items from local smith & braziers shops to keep their forces going. This shows the quick, thin workmanship of that desperate period. Of course there are no marking. Parts broken off and no rowel. But what could say Confederate Cavalry battle better? About 5 3/4" long. Heel arch pinched, only 1 3/4" but I am not going to force it back to wider! I like it as it is.
