#16900 - German Import relic Birdshead Sword
This is a "birdshead" sword, named for shape of the pommel. Typically from 1830-1850 era, but easily carried to Civil War by older officer or a Reb desperate for a weapon. This has the battered and worn look of a "field pickup" as it has been out in the elements a spell. The wood grip is partly missing. No leather covering. A faint maker's marking on ricasso starts with "P", and lower line states Solingen, making it a German blade. There is rusting over blade in irregular patches. This was definitely beat up and left out in the rain for a while before collected. Typically that would mean it was lost during a CW engagement. Great for library wall of a collector of "been there" battle relics. Sadly, the shipping of swords has gone up because US Mail and UPS get very challenged on anything heavy or over 30" now.
