#14227 - Horse bit recovered at Vicksburg This is a Civil War era horsebit recovered in a Vicksburg troop occupied area. Private land with owner's permission to dig. It does not have the US side bosses, so either for a draw horse or mules, or else could have been Confederate which had no bosses typically. This has a light browning on surface but no deep pitting or flaking. The iron chain is still intact, which is amazing as iron typically rusts away. Pretty nice bit for your cavalry collection!
