#16463 - Original Civil War era Daily Planner Bone Diary
This is a Daily Planner typical from the Civil War era. The pages are made of smoothed clear bone made into a small booklet on a brass pivot pin. Each of six pages marked at top with the Day of the Week. Sunday was always skipped since it was a required day of prayer & rest. There is a metal clasp on one end to hold it closed. The owner would write notes of pages with soft lead pencil. It could be wiped away for the next week. Though solid and functioning fine, there is a chip of the bone at one side of the pivot pin where a tight crack developed. Still solid & functional.
