#17378 - Long 30-Second Burn Time Paper Shell Fuze
This is a 30-Second burn-time cannon fuse insert. It was pushed into shaft of brass fuse adapter in a shell just before loading. The flash of fire from cannon ignition lit it. It took about 15 seconds to burn down into the main powder charge of the shell over the enemy position. Artilleryman could choose various burn times (distances) till explosion. Thirty seconds is a longgg time and not a common number to acquire. This was likely made at Frankford Arsenal in Philadelph
