#17720 - A used Brain Exploring Heys Saw Instrument
This is a CW era Hey's Saw that was used to serrate open the thick fibrous dura mater covering of the human brain. It was used to get to areas where broken bone fragments, bullet fragments, or big blood clot hematoma masses needed to be removed from the injured brain. The cross-hatched wooden handles disappeared in later Nineteenth Century when the newer steam sterilization techniques would have warped them.
