#5348 - 11 1/2 Inch seat Union Saddle Shield Likely a Civil War surplus item that was never issued and bought by Military Supply Houses such as Bannerman's of NY from the Federal Government in a huge bulk deal. These were sold through their catalogs from about 1880 to late 1940's. The huge Castle burned down filled with items. Years later some of the singed items were recovered for resale onto the market. About 2" high.
